Happy 65th Birthday Iggy Pop

Born James Osterberg on April 21, 1947, in Muskegon, Michigan. We know him as Iggy Pop and he’s considered by many to be one of the pioneers of punk music. He adored rock and roll growing up and formed his first band in the early 1960s and went through several groups and musical styles before forming the Psychedelic Stooges in 1967 (later known as the Stooges). Their music was experimental and had an aggressive quality to it. Iggy Pop is known for his wild stage antics and as the front man for the band the Stooges, a group that had a major influence on the punk scene of the 1970s. Pop eventually found commercial success with the help of his friend and musician David Bowie. Pop's hit song "Real Wild Child" is an enduring metal rock classic. Pop was married to actress Suchi Asano from 1985-1999. Iggy has appeared in two Euro-westerns “Atolladero” and “Dead Man” with Johnny Depp (both 1994). Today we celebrate Iggy Pop’s 65th birthday.

  1. When Iggy Pop couldn't decide on what to name his band back in 1967, he called Moe Howard of "Three Stooges" fame. He asked Moe, "Do ya think I can get away with calling my band the Stooges?" Moe Howard simply replied, "I don't care what you guys call yourselves. As long as you're not the THREE Stooges!" Iggy Pop called his band the Psychedelic Stooges at first but when people started to automatically assume that the band did drugs, which wouldn't surprise me because this was the 60s after all, they simply just called themselves the Stooges. That band has since been defunct but there ARE talks of a possible reunion by either 2024 or 2025. Nevertheless, Iggy Pop STILL has a lust for life after all these years. Who dat, who dat? I-G-G-Y. Iggy Pop, that is, not Iggy Azalea. But still Iggy. Rock on, Iggy Pop. Rock on.
