Pier Paolo Capponi was born in Subiaco, Italy a suburb of Rome, Lazio,
Italy on June 9, 1938. After he completed his studies Capponi attended a
theater school and later was chosen by director Vittorio De Seta for an important
role in “Un uomo a metà” (1966) starring Jacques Perrin. After the film by the
Taviani brothers “I subversives” (1967), starring the future singer-songwriter
Lucio Dalla, he became famous in 1969 thanks to the film “Iragazzi del massacre”
by Fernando Di Leo. In 1971 Dario Argento directs him in the thriller “Il gatto
a nove code”, while the following year he appears in the psychological mystery
of Umberto Lenzi ‘Sette orchidee macchiate di rosso’, where he plays the role
of inspector Vismara, and in the dramatic “Valeria dentro e fuori” written by
Brunello Rondi, alongside Barbara Bouchet .
In 1977 he appears in the biographical film “Antonio Gramsci - I giorni
del carcere” by Lino Del Fra, alongside the actor Riccardo Cucciolla and, the
following year, he returns again under the direction of Fernando Di Leo in the
film “Diamanti sporchi di sangue”, a sort of remake of Milan caliber 9.
Among his last appearances in films he is remembered for “La posta in
gioco” by Sergio Nasca, focused on the murder of Renata Fonte (played by Lina
Sastri ), “L'urlo della verità” by Stelvio Massi and “I banchieri di Dio” by
Giuseppe Ferrara
In the 70s he turned to television, going from acting from scripts to
appearing in famous fiction such as ‘Io e il Duce’ (1985) and ‘La piovra 6 -
L'ultimo Secret’ (1992).
Having reached retirement age, in 2003 he closed a long career that
began almost forty years earlier and dedicated himself to the projects of the
Education Department of Rai, later converted into Rai Educational .
As a scriptwriter he worked in 1976 on the film “Don Milani” by Alfredo
Angeli .
