Brothers Phil (Benedict Cumberbatch) and George (Jesse Plemons) are polar opposites: Phil is graceful, brilliant, and cruel, while George is impassive, fastidious, and gentle. Together they are co-owners of the largest ranch in the Montana Valley. It's a place where men remain men, the rapid modernization of the 20th century is held at bay, and the figure of Bronco Henry, the greatest cowboy Phil has ever known, is revered. When George secretly marries local widow Rose (Kirsten Dunst), Phil, shocked and angry, fights a war to completely destroy her using his effeminate son as a pawn.
Director Jane Campion adapts Thomas Savage's novel of the same name into "The Power of the Dog," a drama starring the aforementioned Benedict Cumberbatch, Kirsten Dunst and Jesse Plemons.
New Zealander Jane Campion, winner of the Oscar for Best Screenplay for "The Piano" (1993), also has in her filmography titles such as "Sweetie" (1989), "An Angel at My Table" (1990), "Portrait of a Lady" (1996), "Holy Smoke" (1999), "En carne viva" (2003), as well as being one of the creators and directors of the award-winning series "Top of the Lake".
The feature film showcases the wonderful Benedict Cumberbatch (Doctor Strange in Marvel movies). The actor is recently finished shooting under Kevin Macdonald the drama "Prisoner 760," about a detainee at the US Army Center at Guantanamo Bay. In addition, the actor will reprise the role of Doctor Strange in Marvel's "Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness" (2021), which will be directed again by Scott Derrickson, director of "Doctor Strange (Doctor Strange)" (2016).
Accompanying Cumberbatch in the cast is Jesse Plemons ("The Bridge of Spies", "Black Mass: Strictly Criminal", "The Irishman" , "El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie"), who released in 2020 the feature horror film horror "Antlers" and the Disney's family adventure film "Jungle Cruise"; and actress Kirsten Dunst, known for her role as Claudia in "Interview for the Vampire" (Neil Jordan, 1994) and Mary Jane Watson in director Sam Raimi's "Spider-Man" saga. Dunst, born in 1982, has recently participated in the series "Fargo" and in the feature films "Hidden Figures" (Theodore Melfi, 2016), "Seduction" (Sofia Coppola, 2017); In addition, she is nominated for a Golden Globe for the series "Becoming God in Florida."
