Extra Butter has teamed up with Diadora for a first-ever
collaboration design of the heritage model — Titan II. The sneakers feature
Diadora’s premium Made-In-Italy craftsmanship and from that came the
inspiration from Italian cinema and “Spaghetti Westerns.”
In the 1960’s, this “Spaghetti Western” subgenre of
Western films emerged and were popularized by Italian directors, like Sergio
Leone, who created many iconic films and characters that still influence
filmmaking today. Picture Quentin Tarantino’s “Django Unchained” and “Hateful
Eight.”
The New York-based retailer continued its film-centered
creative theme when it came to the Diadora collaboration. “[The Spaghetti
Western idea] was a way of connecting Diadora, Italy and Extra Butter,” said
co-owner Jason Faustino. “It was the idea of how do we educate people on
Diadora, so that’s why we tied in Italian Western films. We really look at the
two entities and see what overlaps.”
The sneakers feature premium leather, suede, Sherpa
lining and a western poncho woven toe. According to Faustino, Clint Eastwood
and the “Dollars” trilogy — including “The Good, the Bad and the Ugly” — had a
major role in the design process. Eastwood’s poncho and shearling vest from
“Fistful of Dollars” gave specific inspiration to the Sherpa lining inside the
shoe.
Extra Butter x Diadora “Spaghetti Western” Titan II will
be available later this month. In the meantime, watch the teaser film below.
