Italian cinematographer Marcello Gatti died in Rome
yesterday November 26, 2013. He was 89. Born in Rome on February 9, 1924, Gatti
became one of Italy’s greatest cameramen and cinematographers. He’s best
remembered for his cinematography on “The Four Days of Naples” (1962), “The
Battle of Algiers” (1966) and “Burn!” (1969).
Gatti won 5 Silver Ribbons during his distinguished career. He has long been
the president of the AIC (Association of Italian directors of photography).
Marcello was the cinematographer on three Euro-westerns: “The Ruthless Colt of
the Gringo” (1965), “The Tall Women” (1966) and “Bastard, Go and Kill” (1971).
