Joseph Gobiet was born on June 25,1927 in Liège, Belgium. His entertainment career began as a 14-year-old kid who started taking singing lessons, won his first singing job at 16 and took the stage name of Roger Darton. Then at the age of 20 he went to Paris to begin his American tour. That was the beginning of his career as the Liège singer. Darton founded the Centre de Variétés de Wallonie.
Later in his career he became an actor and director, known for “Les petites sauvages” (1982), “The Panther Squad” (1984) and “The Girls of the Golden Saloon: (1975).
Roger Darton died on November 24, 2012, in Liège, Belgium.

He only played Zorro in one of the three Zorro films in which he appeared. Roger Darton played Captain Pedro in the first and the colonel in the third.
