Filmmaker but also critic, author of a history of
American cinema, traveler, theater man and screenwriter, Sergio Sollima
(1921-2015) is one of the three great "Sergio" of the Italian
western. Like Leone and Corbucci, he was born in Rome, experienced fascism and
war, and found an outlet in cinema. A student at the prestigious Centro
Sperimentale di Cinematografia in Rome, he met Michelangelo Antonioni, Leopoldo
Trieste and Roberto Rossellini. He moved on to directing in 1962 and made a
name for himself with three kidnapped, picaresque and political westerns,
Colorado, The Last Face to Face and Saludos Hombre!, which made actor Tomas
Milian a popular film star. He then revisited film noir in The City of Violence
with Charles Bronson and Revolver with Oliver Reed. Finally, he remains the
creator of the mythical series Sandokan which reveals the Indian actor Kabir
Bedi. His success opens a second career in television with the beautiful
evocation of his youth years in I ragazzi di celluloide. This book, the first
in French, invites you to discover an atypical and exciting work, that of a
free and demanding author, who lived the cinema as a great adventure.
