Little Known Spaghetti Western Actors ~ Virgil Andriescu

 [These daily posts will cover little known actors or people that have appeared in more recent films and TV series. Various degrees of information that I was able to find will be given and anything that you can add would be appreciated.]

Born on April 26, 1936 in Botoşani Romania, Virgil Andriescu graduated from the Institute of Theatrical and Cinematographic Art "I.L.Caragiale" in 1963. Immediately after graduation he was employed at the Youth Theatre in Piatra Neamt, and in 1965 at the Drama Theatre in Constanta. Throughout his career, Virgil Andriescu was director of the Ovidius theatres in Constanța and Odeon in Bucharest. He played a wide range of roles in dozens of drama and comedy performances, on several stages in Romania, among the most important being Cain, in "The Game of Life and Death in the Ash Desert" by Horia Lovinescu and Macbeth in shakespeare's play of the same name.

In cinema, he made his debut in 1968, in the Romanian-Hungarian co-production, directed by Károly Makk, "The Beautiful Holidays"/ "Bolondos vakáció", accumulating, throughout his career, over 30 roles, of which six are main in feature films, and over 30 other roles, of which seven are main in television films. Virgil Andriescu's filmography includes titles such as "The Labyrinth" (Șerban Creangă, 1980), "The Eleven Hours" (Lucian Bratu, 1985), "Luminile din larg" (Stelian Stativa, 1986), "Parasole soarelui" (Mircea Veroiu, 1986), "Look forward with anger" (Nicolae Mărgineanu, 1993) and "Punctul zero" (Sergiu Nicolaescu, 1996), but also collaborations with directors such as Andrei Blaier ("Diverse Fact", "Battle from the Shadows", "Vacanta cea mare", "Vacanta cea mare", "Divorce ... out of love"), Lucian Pintilie ("Libra"), Dan Pița ("Step in two") and Nae Caranfil ("E pericoloso sporgersi").

Married to Margareta Andriescu , he received a Lifetime Achievement Award at the XIV edition of the Gopo Awards in 2020.

Virgil appeared in one Euro-western as a Mexican captain in  the 1973 DEFA Indianer film “Ulzana” starring Gojko Mitic.
