Little Known Spaghetti Western Actors ~ Rafael Anglada

[These daily posts will cover little known actors or people that have appeared in more recent films and TV series. Various degrees of information that I was able to find will be given and anything that you can add would be appreciated.]

Rafael Anglada i Rubí was born in Santa Coloma de Farners, Girona, Catalonia, Spain on February 11, 1921. He began professionally in radio programs, and in 1953 he worked as a theater actor, almost always in works in Catalan. He specialized in the interpretation of comic characters. He also wrote plays, some of them performed at the Centre Catòlic de Sants. Rafael participated in numerous films and television series such as ‘La saga de los Rius’ (1976) as Padre Llobet, ‘Tot un senyor’ (1989) as Ricard Torrent and ‘Els savis de Vilatrista’ as Senor Pascual (1991).

He was declared a favorite son of Santa Coloma de Farnés and an amateur theater contest is held every year in his honor. In 1992 he received the National Prize for Performing Arts, and in 1993 the Creu de Sant Jordi Prize. He was also posthumously awarded the Gold Medal for Merit in the Fine Arts.

Anglada appeared in only one Euro-western as a shopkeeper in 1964’s “$5,000 on One Ace” with Robert Woods and Fernando Sancho.

  1. For an actor, he doesn't LOOK like a shopkeeper.
