We continue our search for film locations for “The Mercenary”. After Paco’s gang murders the Federally troops the scene moves to a troop train carrying federal troops among which are Polack, Paco and his men wearing the soldiers’ uniforms from the last battle. Paco sees his picture on the newspaper a officer is reading across from him on a train bench. Kowalski pulls the emergency brake, and the train comes to a screeching halt. They ride off with the soldier’s horses and the officer as hostage. When they reach Paco’s camp the turn the soldier loose and tell him to walk the 20 miles back to the train.
This scene was shot in Las Salinas, Tabernas, Spain. The
distinctive hill top has been seen in many Spaghetti westerns including “Death
Rides a Horse”.
