Happy 75th Birthday Giuliano Gemma

Giuliano Gemma was born in Rome, Italy on September 2, 1938. Gemma first worked as a stuntman, then was offered an acting role by director Duccio Tessari, starting with the film “Arrivano i titani” (1962). He also made an appearance in Luchino Visconti's “Il Gattopardo” as Garibaldi's General. Gemma later went on to star in Spaghetti westerns, where he enjoyed great success playing the hero in films such as “A Pistol for Ringo”, “Blood for a Silver Dollar” and “Day of Anger”. He was sometimes credited as Montgomery Wood. In all Gemma appeared in 17 Euro-westerns and is one of the main stars of the genre. Giuliano's career survived the demise of the genre, and he is still active today on Italian television and an occasional film.

Gemma has played in a variety of movies, including art-house offerings such as Valerio Zurlini's “Desert of the Tartars” in 1976, for which he won a David di Donatello, the Italian equivalent of the Oscar.

Gemma currently works as a sculptor and is starring in a web comic named "Man Born Again" (2012) by Eclypsed Word.
