Iris Berben was born on August 12, 1950 in Detmold, North
Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. Iris
grew up in Hamburg, where, her parents ran a restaurant.
After the Six-Day War in 1967 she traveled to Israel, and afterwards became the
partner of the Israeli singer Abi Ofarim. Since then she has been associated
with the pro-Israel lobby and has campaigned against anti-Semitism. Berben
appeared in her only Euro-western “Companeros” in 1970 playing the part of
Lola. She had a son, Oliver, in 1971, who is a producer and assistant director,
but never revealed the identity of the father. In 2005 she was chosen
"Germany's sexiest TV star between 50 and 60" by the readers of Best
Life magazine. Iris has lived together with stuntman Heiko Kiesow since the
shooting of "Afrika, mon amour" in 2007. In 2010, together with Bruno
Ganz she was elected president of the German Film Academy.
