During the Civil War, two Union soldiers of Sicilian origin, Franco and Ciccio, are imprisoned on charges of desertion. Condemned to certain death they are save by their utter stupidity: the Yankee army is in need of two complete idiots to be used in an espionage operation in the wake of two highly intelligent officers who will be studying them during the operation. A series of circumstances, however, leads Franco and Ciccio to be continuously exchanged for their highly intelligent companions; until they actually fall prey to the Apaches. Even in this circumstance the two bring to light all their stupidity and they succeed, however, in spite of everything, to halt the advance of the Confederates making themselves a great service to the army. Rewarded in the field and during the process of being decorated with honors, Franco and Ciccio do not pass up the opportunity to make their last display of nonsense.
