Remembering Vincenzo Musolino

Vincenzo Musolino was born on May 9, 1929 in Benestare, Reggio Calabria, Italy. Born and raised in Benestare, a small town in the province of Reggio Calabria, until the age of twenty, when he met director Renato Castellani in Venice, where he served in the military as a sailor.

Tall, handsome and strong Castellani, who cast him as the lead actor of the film “Due soldi di speranza”, for which the director won the Grand Prix du Festival (Golden Palm) at Cannes. This first film was followed by 25 others (including two as a director), where he was employed in supporting parts, but almost always directed by great directors such as Vittorio De Sica, Pietro Germi and Luigi Comencini. Vincenzo Musolino's career continued until the last years of his short life.

As a producer and director of Euro-westerns, which debuted in 1968 “God May Forgive You, Not Me”, using the pseudonym of Glenn Vincent Davis. The following year, he directed his last film, “Quintana”. As a screenwriter he wrote to the two previously mentioned Euro-westerns as well as “Go with God Gringo” (1966), “Cjamango”, “Don’t Wait, Django… Shoot! (both 1967). As an actor using the pseudonym Bill Jackson he appeared in “Go with God Gringo” (1966), “Cjamango” (Hernandez) and Don’t Wait, Django... Shoot! (Hondo Barrett) (both 1967).

Musolino died from a heart attack on his birthday May 9, 1969 in Rome, Italy. He was 40.

Today we remember director, screenwriter, and actor  Vincenzo Musolino on what would have been his 85th birthday.
