Remembering Abel Salazar

 Actor, producer, director, screenwriter and scriptwriter Abel Salazar Garcia was born on September 25, 1917 in Mexico City, Mexico. He studied at the Free School of Commerce and worked in the archives of the Ministry of Finance and Public Credit (SHCP) and also was a seller of bathroom furniture.

In 1941 he made his acting debut with a small role in the film” La casa del rancor” directed by Gilberto Martinez Solares. That same year he was called on by the director Chano Urueta to act, with a role in “The Count of Monte Cristo”, from there he became one of the most sought after actors in the Mexican film industry.

He dreamed of being gallant in the style of Cary Grant, in his 1943 appearance in “sus ahorros y escribió” directed by Jose Benavides Jr., where he shared credits with David Silva and Julian Soler. It was a huge success and led to the creation of the film production company ABSA. "(Abel Salazar Garcia with Luis Teran and Cesar Aguilera.

Salazar participated as an actor in over 90 films, among which were two Euro-westerns: “The Coyote” and “Judgment of the Coyote” (both 1954). He’s probably best remembered by American audiences for his lead in the 1962 horror film “El baron del terror” (aka “The Brainiac”). His last performance was in the film “The Other” (1984) directed by Arturo Ripstein.

Salazar was married to actress Gloria Marin [1919-1983] from 1958-1960. Abel died on October 21, 1995 in Cuernavaca, Morelos, Mexico. Today we remember Abel Salazar on what would have been his 95^th birthday.
