Amasi Damiani was born on September 26, 1937 in Livorno,
Italy. As a teenager Damiani was an assistant to directors Giuliano Biagetti
and later to Sergio Corbucci. Mainly, he had moved to Rome in 1960 to work in
the theater. From 1963 on, he became a film director and made a number of films
on a regular basis in all popular genres, but they were almost always seen only
by small numbers in regional theaters and some even remained unpublished. From
the mid-1970s he moved to the area of porn films, where he used a number of
pseudonyms, such as Aaron Humberstone, Peter Maris, Ilona Staller and A. Van
Dyke. Some of these were soft porn films and managed to leave the porn cinemas
and be shown in regular theaters. Amasi frequently wrote and cut his films
himself. Damiani made two Euro-westerns: “On the Gallows Bastard” (1968) and
“Tara Poki” (1971). He made a third western called "I fantasi di Omaha-ri (1971) starring Richard Harrison, Josiane Gilbert and Lucie Bomez that was never released. Today we celebrate Amasi Damiani’s 75th
birthday.
