We continue our search for locations for “The Gatling
Gun”. Chris spends the afternoon seducing Belle Boyd and then rides away from
her home and stops in a grove of trees. He goes to the base of a particular
tree and begins to look for something at its base. Suddenly he is caught in a booby-trap
and ends up hanging by his hands five feet off the ground. Mr. Bishop and
several of his men approach and Bishop asks him if he is looking for this,
holding up a money belt. He asks Chris where the meeting with Tarpas and the
Confederates is taking place but Chris refuses to tell him. After telling
Bishop he has spent an enjoyable afternoon with Belle he is beaten by Bishop’s
henchmen until he is able free himself and escape and rides off on his horse.
According to Robert Woods this scene was filmed at a
mansion near Barcelona, Spain. This same location was used in George
Montgomery’s “The Outlaw of Red River” as the location of General Camargo's
hacienda.
