Spanish producer, director, writer José Gutiérrez Maesso
died on August 1, 2016 in Madrid, Spain. Maesso was born June, 10, 1920 in Azuaga, Badajoz, Spain. As co-producer of ‘Tierra brutal” (The Savage
Guns) starring Richard Basehart in 1961, Maesso was partially responsible for
the first Western to be filmed in Almeria, Spain. Maesso also was produced “Gunfight
at Red Sands” (1963), “The Ugly Ones” (1967) and worked on screenplays for “Minnesota
Clay” (1964), “Django” (1966), “The Hellbenders” and “The Ugly Ones” (both
1967), “A Train for Durango” (1968) and “Sting of the West” (1972).
