Peter Illing
was born on March 4, 1899 in Vienna, Austria. Exiled from his native Austria in
1937, Illing specialized in British films as shady, sweaty and inscrutable
foreigners, often of Mediterranean or Middle East origin. He was usually cast
in minor supporting roles, he has a more substantial role as a jovial Italian
patriarch in Emeric Pressburger’s “Miracle in Soho” (1957). Illing appeard in
one Euro-western “Campbell’s Kingdom” (1957) as a doctor. Peter died in London
on October 29, 1966.
Today we remember Peter Illing on what would have been his 115th birthday.
