Sergio Martino was born on July 19, 1938 in Rome, Italy. Sergio
is an Italian film director and producer, notable for his contributions to the
giallo genre. He is the brother of producer Luciano Martino [1933- ] and they’ve
collaborated frequently in their respective professions. Their grandfather was
director Gennaro Righelli [1886-1949]
Martino worked for both the big screen as well as for Italian television where he does most of his current work. He often worked with actress Edwige Fenech who in the 1970s was married to his brother Luciano. He also worked with a lot of genre actors such as George Hilton, Ivan Rassimov and Claudio Cassinelli, as well as famed Italian screenwriter Ernesto Gastaldi.
Sergio was involved with five Euro-westerns directing two: “Arizona Returns” (1970) and “A Man Called Blade” (1977) for which he also wrote the screenplay. He also wrote the screenplay for “Vengeance is Mine” (1968) and was the cinematographer on “Seven Pistols for a Massacre” (1967).
Martino's pseudonyms include: Julian Barry, Martin Dolman, Serge Martin, Christian Plummer, George Raminto and John Hamilton.
Today we celebrate Sergio Martino’s 75th birthday.
