Demeter Bitenc was born on July 21, 1922 in Ljubljana,
Slovenia. He first studied at a commercial academy, then at the Academy of
Performing Arts. From 1943-1954 he was a member of National Theatre in
Ljubljana, then for some years he was a member of the National Theatre in
Rijeka, the Yugoslav National Theatre in Belgrade and the Slovenian Theatre in
Celje. In 1960 he became a freelance actor. Demeter’s first film appearance was
in 1948 in “Na svoji zemlji” and during his acting career he has created more
than 200 roles in feature and television films, series and dramas, among them
many foreign and co-produced films. Demeter appeared in four Euro-westerns from
“Apache Gold” in 1963 to “Starblack” (aka “Johnny Colt”) in 1966. Bitenc’s last
credited appearance was in the 2005 film “Odgrobadogroba”. Today we celebrate
Demeter Bitenc 90th birthday.
