Carlo Pedersoli, aka Bud Spencer, is an icon of Italian
cinema. His face, his voice, his extraordinary gestures are now part of the
collective imagination shared by all generations, becoming a familiar character
on an international level.
Italy is about to remember it with a major exhibition
that opens on September 13th at the Sala Dorica in Palazzo Reale, the
prestigious exhibition space in Naples, the city where Carlo was born and to
which he has always been very attached so much so that when he is asked in the movie
Piedone Lo Sbirro: "Are you Italian?" he replies: "No, I'm
Neapolitan".
Dedicating this exhibition to him will not only be a way
to celebrate the career of one of the protagonists of international cinema, but
it will also be an opportunity to give him back the complete image of a great
interpreter of Italian cinema, with an inventive capacity, full of that
optimism of doing that refers to our best traditions and that still transmits a
message of hope. The multimedia exhibition will recount, step by step, his
life: from his initial sporting activity as a swimming athlete, to that of an
actor with the multifaceted and tireless creativity that has led him over the
years to cover also the role of: entrepreneur, pilot, writer, composer, singer,
even inventor.
The exhibition-event will also tell the world that moved
around the great Bud Spencer: from his extraordinary acting partner Terence
Hill, to the directors with whom he collaborated: Steno, Olmi, Festa Campanile,
Montaldo, Colizzi, Clucher and still Argento, Castellari, Deodato, Capone,
without forgetting the authors of the soundtracks by Micalizzi to the De
Angelis brothers and to La Bionda just to name a few.
The exhibition, narrated by the voice of Bud Spencer,
will be a journey into the world of the actor with multimedia systems,
videomapping, projections on panels, props, Italian and international prizes he
received both as an artist and as a sportsman, newspaper articles from around
the world, posters, movie posters, original sketches, public and private
photos, gadgets and much more.
The monograph that will be produced on the occasion of
the exhibition will not be a simple catalog, but a further document of
integration which, in addition to the critical text and the iconographic
apparatus, may also include documents not present in the exhibition with the
intervention of witnesses and journalists who they have known or collaborated
with him.
So it will be a real biographical book, testimony to the
incredible life of Carlo Pedersoli.
The exhibition is curated by Umberto Croppi, co-produced
by Equa and Istituto Luce-Cinecittà with the support of SIAE - Italian Society
of Authors and Publishers and the collaboration of the family: his wife Maria
Amato and their children Giuseppe, Cristiana and Diamante Pedersoli.
Exhibition design and video installations are by Art
Media Studio - Florence.
