In “Once Upon a Time in the West” Robert Ryan was originally
offered the role of the Sheriff of Flagstone which was eventually played by
Keenan Wynn. Ryan had initially accepted, but backed out after being given a
larger role in Sam Peckinpah's “The Wild Bunch”.
