A weekend trip that fuses cinema, music, nature, gastronomy...

Live an experience of nature and culture in Santo Domingo de Silos, a famous town known for its monastery and now also a pilgrimage for lovers of Sergio Leone's films and Spaghetti westerns, thanks to the Sad Hill Association, which has recovered scenes from the mythical movie The Good, the Bad and the Ugly.  

 Join this western horizon caravan and discover its landscapes, adventures and anecdotes with authors Carlos Aguilar, Anita Haas, Joseba del Valle and Rosa Masip. We will see together The Ugly Ones (Carlos and Anita know the director and are the authors of the only existing book about him), which was shot in Spain, and of course, we will also see the final scene of The Good, the Bad and the Ugly, we will make excursions to the legendary fictional cemetery, and we will listen to the remote echoes of Silberius of Ura, in an unforgettable concert.

Our hosts who accompany you during the weekend get-together:

CARLOS AGUILAR. Award-winning film historian and novelist. In addition to his collaborations with TVE, he has published about seventy books, adding individual, shared and collective authorships. Among them, Guia del Cine (the longest-running and best-selling specialized Spanish book), Cine&Jazz, Spanish comic cinema 1950-1961, Sergio Leone and Clint Eastwood stand out.

ANITA HAAS. She is an award-winning teacher and writer, who has written about various facets (fiction, poetry, essay), both in Spanish and English. Born in Canada and settled in Spain, her main books are Eli Wallach, with a prologue by Clint Eastwood, the short story anthology I was a Bond girl and other disconcerting stories, and the novella Creating Florinda.

SILBERIUS OF URA. An inhabitant of the area, the host musician of Diodati who will not miss this get together.

JOSEBA DEL VALLE BARRIOShe loves the nature of Arlanza-Pinares, and is passionate about exploring locations, especially Spaghetti Western movie sets. A founding member of the Sad Hill Cemetery Reclamation Project.

ROSA MASIP. Director of Diodati. hER passion is to share learning, enjoy with travelers.


Trip program:

Friday July 8, Caravan to Sad Hill.

Check transportation options. You can settle in the hotel if you arrive on your own after 2:00 p.m.

8:00 p.m. The hosts receive the guests. Talk and dinner at the Tres Coronas de Silos Restaurant. 

Saturday July 9. The Good, the Bad and the Ugly.

9am-10.30am breakfast before the duel

11:00 a.m. Screening of the film The price of a man, by Eugenio MartínWe will also see the final scene of The Good, the Bad and the Ugly. 

Colloquium.

2:15 p.m. Tasting menu with products from the area.

5:30 p.m. pick up to go together to the fictional Sad Hill cemetery

Thanks to our expert hosts, the Sad Hill Association, the Santo Domingo de Silos City Council and the Junta de Castilla y León, we will experience the power of the western genre, its landscape, exploits, anecdotes and music…in a movie setting. The mount of Sad Hill and its mythical cemetery. 

On that stage we will chat with Carlos Aguilar, Anita Haas and Joseba del Barrio, we will have the stellar participation of Silberius de Ura.

 

A Tribute To:

FERNANDO MARIAS. Novelist and, above all, a great lover of westerns, which he left us in February. We will remember his link to Sad Hill, the chapter dedicated to this traveling route in his children’s book, written together with Rosa Masip during the pandemic, On the other side of the compass. A film inspired by his novel, The Prodigious Light, features the soundtrack by Ennio Morricone.

 

We will have dinner under the sky of Sad Hill, with a spectacular catering from El Pedroso together with Vinos Sinceros.

10:30 pm return to the hotel by minibus in the company of the hosts.

 

Sunday July 10. To the other side. 

 

9 a.m. to 10 a.m. Breakfast with Spaghetti western

10:30 a.m. Visit to the Cloister of Santo Domingo de Silos.

12 noon Presentation of books dedicated to the western genre, by Carlos Aguilar and Anita Haas. The books will be sold at a special discount. We also have the privilege that Carlos presents us with his new western Los hijos de la furia y de la noche The Children of the Fury and of the Night)

2:30 p.m. Pica pica and End of the trip with Diodati se Mueve.
