We continue our search for locations for “A Few Dollars
for Django”. After Regan returns the money to the bank he tells the bankers he
is going to Montana to visit the reportedly dead outlaw Jim Norton’s twin
brother Trevor to confirm the money he’s recovered the same money stolen in the
bank robbery. The opening credits then roll and we see horse rustlers stealing
and driving away a herd of horses with cuts showing Regan riding through the
countryside.
The area these opening riding scenes were filmed at in
Manzanares el Real north of Madrid. It’s been used and seen in dozens of
Euro-westerns including the widows ranch in “The Big Gundown”. The rocky hills
and outcroppings are easily recognized. A housing track now is beginning to
take over the area but the main dirt road and surrounding hills are still
pristine and looks just as they did when the only people here were film crews.
