Remembering Tonino Cervi


Antonio ‘Tonino’ Cervi was born on June 14, 1929 in Rome, Italy. The son of actor Gino Cervi [1901-1974] and Nini Gordini [1907-1988], he alternated work between that of a director and that of a film producer.
 
Among his historical productions, stands the episodic film “Boccaccio '70” directed by directors Federico Fellini, Vittorio De Sica, Mario Monicelli, Florestan Vancini and Luchino Visconti. He also produced the film “Deserto rosso” by Michelangelo Antonioni .
 
Among the films he has produced many other masterpieces of the great masters of cinema as Francesco Rosi , Bernardo Bertolucci , Mauro Bolognini .
 
He directed his films some of the most famous Italian actors such as Alberto Sordi , Vittorio Gassman , Paolo Villaggio , Lucia Bosé , Turi Ferro , Christian De Sica , Giuliana De Sio , Giorgio Albertazzi , Ornella Muti , Gabriele Lavia , Laura Antonelli , Laura Betti , Bud Spencer. Among which was the Euro-western “Today We Kill… Tomorrow We Die” (1967) which he also directed and wrote the screenplay for.
 
Cervi died of a heart attack at the age of 72 on April 1, 2002 in Rapolano, Siena, Tuscany, Italy.
 
Today we remember Tonino Cervi on what would have been his 85th birthday.
