He became a prolific character actor, seen in many TV crime series like ‘Tatort’, ‘Derrick’ and ‘The Old Fox’. In the 1950s and 1960s, he had leading roles in several Edgar Wallace adaptations. Little Known Spaghetti Western actors ~ David Breen

[These daily posts will cover little known actors or people that have appeared in more recent films and TV series. Various degrees of information that I was able to find will be given and anything that you can add would be appreciated.]

Michael Ferguson came across a number of credited actors on the English language release of Sean Flynn’s 1962 Euro-western “Duel at the Rio Grande” (The Sign of Zorro). For some reason these actors don’t appear on European prints or at the IMDb.

Breen worked behind the camera as a production coordinator or an assistant to the producer in ten films while his only on-screen appearance was in his only Spaghetti western “Il segno di Zorro” (The Sign of Zorro aka Duel at the Rio Grande) in 1962.

BREEN, David [12/10/1928, Chicago, Illinois, U.S.A. – 7/12/1984, San Gabriel, California, U.S.A.] – producer’s assistant, production coordinator, film actor married to Corbina Marjory Loscalzo (1953-19??).

Django Undisputed streaming on Django Western and Full Action

Annuario del Cinema NEWS

Directed and starring Claudio Del Falco, “Django Undisputed” is streaming on Django Western and Full Action, the channels dedicated to adrenaline-pumping cinema available on Prime Video Channels, thefilmclub.it and TIMVISION.

After the action movies “Iron Fighter” and “The Martial Avenger”, the "Italian Van Damme" pays homage to E.B. Clucher (Enzo Barboni) and his two films starring Trinity/Terence Hill by directing and starring in a feature film whose goal is to bring back to the cinema the unmistakable atmosphere of spaghetti westerns, in order to combine the typical Italian tradition with a modern and engaging narrative.

“Django Undisputed” tells the story of Django, a man determined to restore order to a village in the Wild West oppressed by violence and crime. Together with his brother, Django finds himself facing the cruel Tomas in a duel to the death to save their community and protect his mother Serena, owner of a brothel, from the tyranny of the outlaws.

Del Falco himself plays Django, while the latter's brother, Tomas and Serena own the faces of Fabio Romagnolo, Italian IFBB PRO body building champion here at his film debut, international star Tomas Arana and Anna Rita Del Piano, within a rich cast including Michael Segal, Mauro Aversano, Francesca Giuliano, Ciro Buono and Clara Guggiari, with the participation of Massimiliano Buzzanca and former Miss Italy Nadia Bengala. In addition, in the role of Django's father we find Ottaviano Dell'Acqua, a historic presence of the legendary films that starred Bud Spencer and Terence Hill.

First “Dango” Western Original, therefore, “Django Undisputed” marks a further ambitious step in the filmography of Del Falco, who, always interested in bringing the genre back into the context of Italian film production, aims this time to dust off the spaghetti western, now forgotten for too long on our sets.

Director: Alex Cox (Alexander Cox)

Jo Pappworth, Wooden Man

In 1976/77 Alex Cox was a student in the Radio, Film and TV Studies course at Bristol University. During his year there, he made this film. It was shot on the Italian Western locations in Almeria and Granada - El Paso, Fort Bravo, Flagstone and CECISA - where ten years later he make “Straight to Hell”. “Black Hills” he says is not a great film, but it's interesting to see what the sets looked like in the mid-1970s, especially Flagstone - the most elaborate of Carlo Simi's Western towns - and CECISA, both of which have now vanished.

Spaghetti Western Trivia - The Magic Behind the Ecstasy of Gold

No one made movies like Sergio Leone. In “The Good, the Bad and the Ugly”, he gave us one of the most unforgettable scenes in film history — a man running through a massive cemetery for over three minutes, searching, desperate, with the music building all around him.

Originally, that scene was only meant to last 30 seconds. But when Ennio Morricone delivered the music, it was so powerful that Leone stretched the scene to almost four minutes!

Leone once said, “Music is more expressive than dialogue,” and called Morricone his best screenwriter. That says everything.

Together, they created something truly magical.

The Ecstasy of Gold isn’t just a scene — it’s pure cinema.

RIP Axel Scholtz

Veteran German film, radio, TV and voice actor Axel Scholtz died on April 21st he was 90. Born in, Schweidnitz, Lower Silesia, Germany on March 1, 1935, as a child, he took on a role in the theatre adaptation of “Emil and the Detectives” at the Munich Kammerspiele, later he played at the Volkstheater. As a twelve-year-old, he appeared in a film for the first time in 1947’s “Zwischen gestern und morgen”. After his schooling, he completed a photographer's training course and took acting lessons from Friedrich Domin and finally at the Otto-Falckenberg-Schule in Munich. This took him to the Munich cabaret Die Zwiebel and to the Stachela in Berlin. Scholtz participated in many films and television productions, and he also worked in dubbing and numerous radio plays. He worked as a voice dubber on two Euro-westerns:”Killer Adios” in 1986 he was the German voice of Fabián Conde and voiced both Jack Caffrey and Yom Connor in 1994’s “Troublemakers” with Bud Spencer and Terence Hill.

In the final days of the American Civil War, an emigre Hungarian military officer attempts to map the situation of the enemy. Many veterans of the 1848 War of Independence in Hungary fought on the northern side. Experienced Fiala, Boldogh who struggles with homesickness and the reckless Vereczky all experience their enforced emigration in different ways and news of impending peace elicits different reactions from them all.

Filmed at the Béla Balázs Studio, Hungary. The film commemorates the Hungarian emigration that occurred during the eighteen forties and shows the different fates that befell the three different characters: the rationalist, the fatalist and the romantic.

American writer Ambrose Bierce’s materials were used for AMERICAN TORSO and the earlier French INCIDENT AT OWL CREEK. The production also culled material from Sándor Csoóri (poem), László Árvay & Gyula Kúné & János Fiala (diaries), Karl Marx (article), László Teleki (letter) to flesh out the script.

Director Gábor Bódy created a special editing process that he called "light-editing", making the images look like they had been torn, aged and over-exposed so that they resembled a silent film that would have been taken in the late 19th century. Bódy pushed his experimentation and use of cinematic language as far as he could to achieve this.

The film was shown at the ERA New Horizons Film Festival, on July 26, 2005, in July in Wrocław, Poland.

Too bad they didn’t get internationally known Hungarian actors John Bartha [János Bartha] (THE GOOD THE BAD AND THE UGLY) & Tom Felleghy [Tamás Fellegi] (BRUTE AND THE BEAST) to appear.

Voices of the Spaghetti Western – “The Handsome, the Ugly, and the Stupid”

As we know most of the Euro-westerns were co-productions from Italy, Spain, Germany and France which incorporated British and American actors to gain a worldwide audience. The films were shot silent and then dubbed into the various languages where they were sold for distribution. That means Italian, Spanish, German, French and English voice actors were hired to dub the films. Even actors from the countries where the film was to be shown were often dubbed by voice actors for various reasons such as the actors were already busy making another film, they wanted to be paid additional salaries for dubbing their voices, the actor’s voice didn’t fit the character they were playing, accidents to the actors and in some cases even death before the film could be dubbed.

I’ll list a Euro-western and the (I) Italian, (S) Spanish, (G) German and (F) French, (E) English voices that I can find and once in a while a bio on a specific voice actor as in Europe these actors are as well-known as the actors they voiced.

Today we’ll cover “The Handsome, the Ugly and the Stupid”
