Arthur Andrew Kelm was born on July 11, 1931 in New York City to German immigrants. His father was an abusive man and a few years after his birth his parents divorced and he moved with his mother to California and reassumed her last name of Gelien and Arthur and his brother’s names were changed also. During his teenage years Arthur took up figure skating and horseback riding. He was signed by a film agent and his name was changed to Tab Hunter. His first film appearance was in 1950's "The Lawless" but he found fame in 1955's "Battle Cry" and was named Most Promising New Personality. He released a hit record "Young Love" in 1957 and followed up with a starring role in the 1958 film "Damn Yankees". Losing the lead role in "Westside Story" he was given his own TV series "The Tab Hunter Show" (1960). Tab then moved to southern France and it was at this time he appeared in his only Euro-western "Shotgun" (1969). He returned to the United States but his career was filled with TV appearances and an occasional film. In 2005 he released his tell-all autobiography, Tab Hunter Confidential: The Making of a Movie Star. Today we celebrate Tab Hunters 80th birthday.
