In a border town dispute between the United States and Mexico it remains under the terror of a vicious gang of ruthless bandits. A gambler named Joe Reese arrives, and immediately risks being hanged by the gang. Joe’s brother, Captain Clay Reese, is the lone governing authority of the United States waiting for troops because he is afraid of being killed in an ambush by bandits. He manages to save Joe from being hanged, but the Mexican bandits, who now dominate the town in the certainty of its annexation to Mexico, they kill Captain Reese and Joe, "Gentleman Joe," so called for its conduct of a refined man of the world, almost single-handedly goes after the bandits to avenge his brother’s murder and eliminates many. Eventually, when he is caught and about to be hanged on the gallows, is saved by the arrival of a Mexican army unit coming to take possession of the town assigned to Mexico. The bandits are arrested and taken prisoner and Joe’s life is saved.
