Éric Kristy was a French novelist and screenwriter. Born in Paris, Île de France, France on April 16, 1951. He is the cousin of journalist and writer Dominique Jamet. Éric created for TF1 the series ‘Une femme d'honneur’, starring Franck Keller, and ‘Le Proc’, and for France 2 the series ‘Action spéciale douanes’, with Marie-Anne Le Pezennec. With regard to the latter series, the two screenwriters exercised their rights and had their names removed from the credits after watching the films in protest at the way it was filmed. Kristy wrote or co-wrote more than sixty screenplays for television films and series.
Besides his writing credits Kristy was a musician, composer and songwriter. A professional guitarist, he is one of the co-creators of the band Bluegrass Connection which toured and recorded in the United States in 1973 and the author of a Bluegrass guitar method. He has accompanied the singer Philippe Chatel on stage and on record and has worked many times with Richard Gotainer. He is the performer of the eponymous song from the animated film “The Ballad of the Daltons”, and the voice of the animated film’s character Bill.
From 1979 to 1980, Eric had a short career in France as a pop singer. He released 3 singles (on the Vogue label) using melodies composed by Philippe Chatel, but none of them became a hit.
Eric is the father of columnist and TV presenter Dorothée Kristy. He died in Paris on February 2, 2016, at the age of 64.
Éric Kristy received the Best Screenplay Award in 2003 at the Luchon Festival for the TV movie Capitaine Lawrence (TF1). He was also named Chevalier de l'Ordre des Arts et des Lettres in January 2010.
