American
film and TV actor James Caan died on July 6, 2022 in Los Angeles, California. He was 82. Born James Edmund
Caan in The Bronx, New York on March 26, 1940, he was a rodeo performer before
turning his interests to an acting career. He’s probably best known for his
portrayal of Sonny Corleone in the “Godfather” film series. He also had
memorable performances in the made for TV film “Brian’s Song” (1970) and as Walter
Hobbs in 2003’s “Elf”. Western fans remember him as Alan Bourdillion ‘Mississippi’
Traherne in John Wayne’s “El dorado” (1966) and as Frank ‘Buck’ Athearn in 1978’s
“Comes a Horseman” with Jane Fonda and Jason Robards. Caan appeared in two
Eueo-westerns: 1977’s “Another Man, Another Chance” as David Williams and “North
Star” 1995 as Sean McLennon. He also had a western named “Casanova West” in
1967 that was announced but never made.
