The
interior of the church scene where Indio called together his gang in “For a Few
Dollars More” was filmed in the Church of Santa Maria in Turillas, Spain. The
church was in a state of ruins and was abandoned. Sergio Leone gave the church
enough money to completely rebuild it after filming was finished. To this day
they hey refer to him as Saint Sergio.
How many directors do you know that would donate most of their Hollywood money to remodel a church? Sergio Leone made that happen because that's the kind of man he was. Great work on his part. Thank you, Sergio. Thank you.
