Spaghetti Western Locations ~ “The Mercenary”

We continue our search for film locations for “The Mercenary”. Then we see Kowalski riding into the Los Fresnos mine with a pack mule loaded with guns. He ties his horse up and notices no one is there. He finds several me hanging from the rafters of the office. He strikes a match on the sole of dead man’s boot and lights his cigarette. He then finds the safe has been emptied. A voice from Paco Roman says, “Howdy Gringo! Up with your hands and come out here. Sergei goes into the other room where Paco asks him what he’s looking for. He tells Paco he was hired to transport silver from the mine across the border. Paco explains there has been an explosion and the road to the mine where the silver is being kept is now blocked. Sergei prepares to leave but is stopped by Paco’s 12 apostles. Quickly Kowalski turns the tables on Paco put’s a gun to his head and threatens to kill him unless his men put down all their guns. Then a ticker tape machine begins to print a message that a whole company of regulars are on their way to the mine headed by Colonel Alfonso Garcia. Paco says it’s a trick and suddenly a cannon ball explodes in the wall next to him. The fuselage continues and as Paco and Sergei run for cover, Paco discovers the machine gun. Unfortunately for Paco he doesn’t know how to assemble it and tells Kowalski to help. The Polack explains to him that he is a professional and “no cash, no work, are you a customer?” Paco asks how much and Sergei replies $200. Paco hands over the money and Sergei assembles the machine gun. Paco tells him he’ll take over. Of course, he doesn’t know how to shoot the gun and Sergei demands another $200. Roman has no choice but to pay up.  Garcia launches a charge and Kowalski mows them down. They load up an automobile with dynamite and with the machine gun humming they mow down more soldiers and blow up the cannons. Colonel Garcia and his remaining men are in full retreat while Paco laughs at them.

This scene was filmed at Carabana near Madrid.
