I read an interview with Gianfranco Parolini aka Frank Kramer and he discussed
Lee Van Cleef and “God’s Gun” (1976). He said that they were in the middle of
filming in the Sinai desert when a skirmish between Israel and the Palestinians
broke out. This was a Gola Globus production and Menahem Golan basically
deserted the project leaving him without a penny and above all water. Several
of the actors took this as their cue to leave and among them was Lee Van Cleef.
Parolini talked him into staying for one more day and they shot over 50
closeups of Lee. Then a double was used and filmed from behind and the closeups
of Lee were edited in. This would also explain why most of the main actors
including Lee and Richard Boone did not do their own dubbing as they had left
the country.
Leif Garrett might have also left and whoever dubbed him probably wasn't even a male. I heard a rumor that Bridget Nielsen was in the film but I couldn't find her anywhere so I know she couldn't have been in it. And as for Leif Garrett, he probably doesn't remember making this film. He also made another Western with Lee Van Cleef called, "Kid Vengeance" in 1977. And this time, he got to kill Lee. But either way, I can see how this film nearly failed. Not to mention Lee and Parolini had worked together before on the "Sabata" films.
