Spaghetti Western Director ~ Vigo Larsen

The actor and director Viggo Larsen belonged to the early film pioneers. At the beginning of the film history the Danish film businesses was a world power and Viggo Larsen found ideal conditions for his film works.

Born in Copehagen, Denmark on August 4, 1880, when the Nordisk film company produced Sherlock-Holmes movies in series in 1908, Viggo Larsen impersonated the leading role. Between 1908 and 1909 he appeared in five movies with the English detective. The actor Alwin Neuss took over the role later. The Holmes movie "Den Graa dame" 1909 fascinated the audience in a special way. Based on "Der Hund von Baskerville" (the dog was replaced by a ghost in this filming) the movie transferred the audience to excitement with Holmes' excursions through creepy ways, and the height with the appearance of the ghost beaten everything.

In Germany he shot again several Sherlock-Holmes movies like "Arsène Lupin gegen Sherlock Holmes" 1910 and "Sherlock Holmes gegen Professor Moryarty" 1911, he played his last part as Sherlock Holmes in 1918.

Vigo appeared in 140 films between 1906 and 1942. He also directed 235 films between 1906 and 1921. He was born and died in Copenhagen, Denmark. He has been criticized for having starred in the 1942 Nazi-propaganda movie “G.P.U.”

Vigo Larsen directed two silent Euro-westerns: “Texas Tex” and “Frank Hanen’s Glück” (Frank Hansen’s Fortune) both in 1917.

Spaghetti Western Screenwriter ~ Eduardo Di Lorenzo

Eduardo Di Lorenzo was born Edward Dennis Di Lorenzo in Boston, Massachusetts on September 2, 1932. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War after attending Boston College. He a screenwriter for both US and European productions. He was involved in writing scripts for fourteen films and television shows beginning in 1964 and ending in 1987. He taught screenwriting at the University of Southern California.

Di Lorenzo died in Los Angeles on April 27, 2023 at the age of 91.

As Eduardo Di Lorenzo he co-wrote two screenplays for Spaghetti westerns: “L’uomo della velle maledetta” (The Man from the Cursed Valley) with Eduardo Manzanos Brochero in 1964, and “Die Hölle von Manitoba” (A Place Called Glory) with Jerold Boyd and Fernando Lamas in 1965.

Nothing is known about Mario Perino. He has been credited with only one film and that was his only Spaghetti western, “Get Mean” in 1975.
