British producer Jermy Thomas died at his Oxfordshire,
England home at the age of 77. Born Jeremy Jack Thomas in London on July 26,
1949, Thomas won the Best Picture Oscar in 1988 for Bernardo Bertolucci's
"The Last Emperor." He's a key talking head in Luca Guadagnino's new
documentary about the Italian filmmaker," "Joie de Vivre," which
just premiered in Venice. He also founded the Recorded Picture Company in the
1970s, launching with Polish director Jerzy Skolimowski’s Cannes winner “The
Shout.” The excellent cult psychological thriller stars Alan Bates, Susannah
York, and John Hurt, and is coming to the Criterion Collection this fall. Thomas
was the producer of "Mad Dog Morgan" with Dennis Hopper in 1976 and
the 2023 Euro-western “The Dead Don’t Hurt” with Viggo Mortensen.
