The rail line we see in “For a Few Dollars More” and the
Tucumcari Station where Colonel Mortimer stops the train was an actual train
route and station. The rail line is a spur off of the main line that goes to a
mine near Gaudix. The station was remodeled with board siding and an overhang
and porch added to the fron
In this opening scene of “Once Upon a Time in the West”
you can see just a bit of the Tucumcari station to the left of the train. Like
many shots in Leone’s films he used the same locations several times and either
changed camera angles or added buildings to a previous scene.
While we’re discussing the Tucumcari Station, when
watching the scene where Van Cleef converses with Roberto Camardiel at the ticket
window look behind Roberto and you’ll see a scantily clad child inside the
station. His/her identification is unknown.
