Sergio Corbucci
has directed more than sixty films and written numerous subjects and
screenplays. From the melodrama of the Fifties (where he rivaled Raffaello
Matarazzo) to the peplum (often collaborating with Sergio Leone and Duccio
Tessari), from the debut in the Italian western (of which he is probably the
true precursor), passing through the relaunch of Totò, up to the confused
Eighties, where he was almost always a blockbuster. Protagonist of four decades
of Italian cinema, he has tackled almost all genres, including thriller and
gothic (albeit fleetingly), but he is remembered almost exclusively for Django,
a violent and baroque western that also made the fortune of its interpreter
Franco Nero. In recent times Quentin Tarantino has enthusiastically worked on
the (re)discovery of the director, to the point of saying that he was precisely
"the other Sergio", in eternal contrast with the more celebrated
Sergio Leone.
