Lee Van Cleef was a tall, thin figure, a cropped face,
thin jet-black eyes, a smile that was sometimes mischievous, sometimes
predatory, and a severed finger. But Lee Van Cleef is also and above all the
story of an aquiline profile recognizable among all, marked by a nose too big
and too hooked to be that of a hero. From 1952 to 1965 he starred in more than
fifty films and got only one leading role. When he decided to leave the cinema,
Sergio Leone chose him as Clint Eastwood's antagonist in "For a Dollar More".
From here he became a star in Europe and the Italian western adopted him
without hesitation. This book tells his artistic and personal parable, but also
analyzes the phenomenon called "Hollywood on the Tiber" when dozens
of American actors moved to Rome to work.
