Today marks the 50th anniversary of
the release in Rome, Italy of Sergio Corbucci’s “Corri uomo corri” (Run, Man, Run) starring Tomás Milian, Donald
O’Brien and Chelo Alonso.
A Mexican peon named Cuchillo is seen stealing a loaf of
bread and almost ends up being shot by a fire squad about to execute a
revolutionary. Cuchillo manages to escape the hectic scene and jumps on his
horse and rides away. After stealing a precious watch he's thrown in jail, where
he happens to be sharing a cell with a revolutionary poet called Ramirez, who
offers him $100 to break him out and flee with him to Texas, where he has
hidden a sum of $300,000. With the money, Ramirez wants to finance the
Revolution against Diaz. Cuchillo goes along with the escape plan, but when the
two men arrive in a village near the border, they are captured by the
revolutionary bandit Reza. Ramirez is killed, but in his dying moments, he
hands over a newspaper to Cuchillo, telling him that it's a clue as to where
the treasure is hidden. Cuchillo now heads for Texas. Also interested in the
gold, are two warring revolutionary factions, an American sheriff, Daniel
Cassidy, who’s now turned bounty hunter, two French federal agents and a
Salvation Army missionary named Penny Bannington. There's also his fiancée
Dolores, who desperately wants to marry him, even though he's a pig. In the end
Cassidy and Cuchillo team-up to turn the tide in their favor and Cuchillo ends
up a hero of the revolution.
