Happy 70th Birthday Raquel Welch
Jo Raquel Tejada was born on August 5, 1940 in Chicago, Illinois. One of three children, her mother was American and her father Bolivian. She married her first husband James Welch in 1959 and changed her name to Raquel Welch. She made her stage debut in the Ramona pageant in Hemet, California in 1959. She was a weather forecaster on San Diego TV station KFMB while attending college at San Diego State University. After her marriage to Welch ended she moved with her two children Damon and Latanne to Dallas, Texas where she worked as a model for the Nieman Marcus Department Store chain. She returned to California living in Los Angeles and making appearances on TV series and small film roles. Her first film role was in “A House is not a Home” (1964). She became a star and a sex symbol with her appearances in “One Million Years B.C.” and “Fantastic Voyage” both in 1966. She appeared in the Euro-westerns “100 Rifles” (1969) and “Hannie Caulder” in 1971. In 1974 Raquel won a Golden Globe Award for her performance in “The Three Musketeers” and was nominated for a Golden Globe in 1987 for the TV drama “Right to Die”. She has continued to appear in films and television and wrote a book on fitness 'The Raquel Welch Total Beauty and Fitness Program' in 1984. In 2007 she was signed by MAC Cosmetics and in 2010 was a spokeswoman for Foster Grant sunglasses. She recently released another book 'Raquel: Beyond the Cleavage' in March of 2010. Today we celebrate still beautiful Raquel Welch's 70th birthday.
