Happy 70th Birthday Dario Argento

Dario Argento was born on September 7, 1940 in Rome, Italy the son of producer Salvatore Argento [1914-1987] and photographer and model Elda Luxardo [1912-?] and brother of producer Claudio Argento [1945- ]. Dario did not attend college but worked as a journalist for the newspaper 'Paese Sera'. During this time he started to write screenplays. Although when we think of Argento we think of his work as a director and screenwriter in the Horror genre, he was hired by Sergio Leone to write the story outline, along with Bernardo Bertolucci, for “Once Upon a Time in the West” (1968). He followed this up with “Today We Kill... Tomorrow We Die!” starring Brett Halsey as Montgomery Ford and then “Cemetery Without Crosses” for Robert Hossein. In 1969 he wrote his final western screenplay for “The 5-Man Army!”. He then would go on to become a legendary director, screenwriter and composer in the Giallo and Horror genres. Dario is the father of actresses Fiore Argento [1970- ] and Asia Argento [1975- ]. Today we celebrate the 70th birthday of Dario Argento.
