German director, screenwriter, actor Peter Kern died in his home town of
Vienna, Austria on Wednesday August 26, 2015. He was 66. Born on February 13,
1949, Kern was began his professional career as a singer in the Vienna Boys’
Choir. This led to an role in a German version of the musical “Hair”. He would
go on working for such directors as Rainer Werner Fassbinder, Hans-Jürgen
Syberberg, Wim Wenders and Werner Schroeter. He began his own career as a
director with “Die Wasserlilie blüht nicht mehr” in 1980 and would go on direct
over 25 films and act in over 70.
His lone Euro-western appearance was as George Grosz in
the 1974 documentary film “Karl May”.
