Remembering Gerald Thomas
Gerald Thomas was born on December 10, 1920 in Hull, Yorkshire, England. He was studying medicine when World War II broke out and served with the British army in Europe and the Middle East. When the war was over he did not return to his studies but took a job as a film editor for Two City Films at the Denham Studios. Many of the films he edited were made by his brother, producer, director Ralph Thomas [1915-2001]. Although he had a varied career in films he’s almost exclusively remembered today as the director of all the “Carry On” films. Among which was his only Euro-western “Carry on Cowboy” (1965). Thomas was married and had three daughters. He is also the uncle of producer, director Jeremy Thomas [1949- ]. Gerald died on November 9, 1993 in Beaconsfield, Buckinghamshire, England. Today we remember Gerald Thomas on what would have been his 90th birthday.
