Spaghetti Western Trivia ~ Richard Harrison & The Man With No Name

One reason Richard Harrison turned down an offer to do “Per un pugni di dollari’ (A Fistful of Dollars), was because director Sergio Leone had a bad reputation after “Sodom and Gomorrah.

  1. I had no idea Richard Harrison turned down the role of Blondie due to what happened with "Sodom And Gomorrah". I kinda thought he turned down the role because it didn't offer him enough money. Which reminds me. I had the strangest dream the other night. I dreamed I was back In 1964 and they were making "Fistful Of Dollars". Sergio Leone was going around Rome and Los Angeles as well as elsewhere to see if he could get any major Hollywood actors to appear in his new film. After three more actors turned down the role of Blondie, James Garner, James Arness, and Jimmy Stewart, Sergio comes to me and says, "Would you like to play the role of Blondie"? And guys, I only WISH I coulda said yes. But I didn't. Instead I was offered the role of a gunfighter in a Spaghetti Western called, "Renegade Blood" directed by Carlos Giraldi. That's how I approach things as an actor. If I don't think a part is good enough, I'll turn it down nicely. That's how I ended up turning down the role of Bernardo in "West Side Story". I didn't wanna have to do it unless I really wanted to and at that time, I didn't want to. Now I'm not saying that I WOULDN'T wanna play Bernardo. I'm only saying that there's still plenty of time to play the character. And I'll play Bernardo WHEN and IF I feel like it. And right now, I don't feel like it. But hey, it's never too late to give it one more try. I think maybe one day I will. But anyway, interesting story. I really learned a lot today.
