Rina Fedora Filippini was born in Genoa, Italy on September 9, 1917. Rina was a soprano opera singer who studied in Milan with Giannina Russ and won the competition of the Rome Opera House in 1937. She was soon performing widely (under her artist's name Fedora Solveni) in such roles as Musetta and Lola. Early engagements included Rome and Covent Garden. In 1941 she married the tenor Mario Del Monaco [1915-1982]. They had a son stage director Giancarlo Del Monaco [1943- ]. In later years she was active as a teacher, and her pupils included Fabio Armilato among others.
Rina can be heard on the soundtrack for Cameron Mitchell’s 1964 Spaghetti western “The Last Gun” singing “Amor Mexicano”.
