Shortly the filming

Twof three films will begin: "El Corsario", a "western" and "Marco Polo".

o of his best interpretations will soon be released in Las Palmas: “Ivanna” and “La Muerte busca un hombre” (More Dollars for the MacGregors)

The first of them earned the "Italian Critic Award"

Charles Quiney has been in Las Palmas for two weeks. The reason is obvious: to spend the Christmas holidays with his family. It wasn't long ago that the Canarian actor made a brief visit to our island, taking a break while filming a movie, also for family reasons: the first communion of his eldest daughter. Whenever he can, Charles Quiney comes to Las Palmas. His visits are not as frequent as he would like but when the job requires.

We spoke a few days before his return to Europe where a very intense job awaits him.

“I will be in Madrid for a couple of days before starting the filming of the movie "El Corsario", some of whose sequences will be filmed in Spain -in Mar Menor specifically- I will be the leading actor together with Lea Massari. The director is Jose Luis Merino. I estimate that the filming will end at the beginning of March.”

After “El Corsario” – which makes number 18 of the films in which Charles Quiney has participated; seventeen of them as the lead -he will make another film with Lee Van Cleef, under the direction of Giancarlo Parolini.

“This is a somewhat of an original “western”, since the action takes place in snowy places. Do not add the name that will be given to this film, which will be an Italian-American co-production. The famous Claudia Cardinale and Senta Berger will intervene as female figures.

More works in perspective. In addition to the two aforementioned films, Charles Quiney has other commitments. The most interesting is that of the movie “Marco Polo”, in which he will star.

“I am excited about the idea of interpreting the role of Marco Polo. Only one actor has done it in the cinema, the unforgettable Gary Cooper.

We are also told by Charles Quiney that this film will be shot in Venice and China, which is where Marco Polo's travels took place.

“The film is purely Italian. Filming will begin at the end of May when the previous two have concluded. At the moment I don't know any other details about said film, but my representative assured me that it is an ambitious work. It is clearly indicated by the fact that more than two hundred thousand pesetas will be invested in it.

In addition to the three films that we have mentioned, Charles Quiney has signed contracts for several other films, of which he will give us news in due course.

We then talked about the movies he has finished.

“My last two films will soon be released in Spain: “Ivanna” and “La Muerte busca un hombre” (More Dollars for the MacGregors). Both are distributed in the Peninsula by "Columbus Film" and in the Canary Islands by Don Jesus Rodriguez Doreste who has told me through the clergy that they will soon be exhibited in Las Palmas.

Charles Quiney considers both films to be among the best he has made to date.

"Ivanna" received the "Critics Award" in Italy, having caused a great impact in that country.”

He also tells us that "Robin Hood" will soon be released in Las Palmas, a film shot last year precisely around this time.

“In Italy there are currently my films on the bill. Except for “La Muerte busca un hombre” (More Dollars for the MacGregors) all the others have been released.”

In the Italian magazine "Ogge", which lists all the films that are being shown in Europe, we see that several films starring Charles Quiney appear on the posters of France, England, Germany and Scandinavian countries.

“In Spain several have been released. In Barcelona they are projecting now – for several weeks now – “Robin Hood” in the “Capitol”. In Madrid, "Robin Hood" was also announced for the end of this month, as well. “Ivanna”, both in “first vision” cinemas, as our “premiere cinemas” are known in Italy.

Charles Quiney tells us that if some of the films that he has shot in Italy are still not known in Spain, it is due to legal delays in making the Spanish version.

A lot of work awaits Charles Quiney, whom we may not be able to see again on our island for quite some time, his professional commitments will keep him constantly busy, and he must also make a large number of trips due to the subject matter of the films he stars in. Charles Quiney is an actor who gains fame and prestige every day in Europe. In Italy, specifically, some film magazine have even talked about "flirts" with famous actresses like Maria Schell. Charles Quiney denies that this is true.

“There has not been more than a simple and pure friendship.”
