The structure of the book is divided into two parts. The first, by Jesús Palacios, consisting of a long introductory and general essay on the theme of the Weird Western, and the second where the collaborations of the rest of the authors are concentrated, addressing different and distinctive aspects of the genre. Thus, Rakel Suárez Hernández, illustrator, graphic designer and lover of mythology, offers an exciting panorama of the cryptozoological bestiary of the fantastic western; Alfredo Lara, veteran expert in popular literature and current director of the Frontera collection of the Valdemar publishing house, specializing in classics of the American Western novel, addresses the complicated but fundamental contribution and role of the Native Americans in the Weird Western; Canadian film critic and professor Donato Totaro reflects on the apocalyptic nature of the western, through characters, aesthetic motifs and plots; and Adolfo Reneo reviews some of the vampires and resurrected who walk through the West, both in movies and in series and comics. Lastly, Jesús Palacios delves into the hidden and literally subterranean history of the Border, searching for its secret inhabitants and lost cities and including, as an example and an appendix, an original Weird Western story by Robert E. Howard, translated for the first time into Spanish, in addition to also offering a brief reflection on Robert Aldrich's seminal film Ulzana's Raid (1972) and its influence on modern splatter survival. Finally, the last pages collect an essential filmography of the genre, compiled and commented by Carlos Morcillo Mira, as well as a brief but no less necessary bibliography. As a final incentive for readers, the book includes the latest and fiercest episode of the Atolladero comic series, an example par excellence of the genre in our country, created by the brilliant cartoonist Miguel Ángel Martín and written and later brought to the screen by his Screenwriter Oscar Aibar. Welcome everyone, make yourself comfortable in your seats and enjoy the ride offered by this bizarre and fantastic stagecoach from Weird Western, western cinema without borders. quintessential example of the genre in our country, created by the great cartoonist Miguel Ángel Martín and written and later brought to the screen by his screenwriter Óscar Aibar. Welcome everyone, make yourself comfortable in your seats and enjoy the ride offered by this bizarre and fantastic stagecoach from Weird Western, western cinema without borders.
