We continue our search for film locations for “The Mercenary”. After Kowalsk leaves the gambling hall two men, mine owners, go after him and tell him a revolution is about to break out and they want to hire him to protect their shipments. He demands $1,000 in advance plus $200 per weeks plus expenses. They agree and give him the $1,000. Studs tries to ambush Sergei, but Curly takes his gun away and says, “The execution has been postponed.” Curly asks Studs is he married and does he have children. He says divorced and no children. As the camera follows Curly to his horse, they pass one of his henchmen sharpening a pitchfork. The man gives Curly the knife and then we hear a scream, and the henchman mounts his horse. Curly rides over to Studs makes the sign of the cross and rides on while the camera shows Studs on the ground dead with the pitchfork in his stomach.
This scene was filmed at the DiLaurentis western set in
Rome. The same town set seen in “Navajo Joe”.
