Embalse de Santillana is a basin that was created
in 1907 about one kilometer south of Manzanares
El Real, Spain.
It is often seen in the distance in sequences of western films shot in the
landscape of La Pedriza or El Jaralon, such as "Judment of the
Coyote" (1954); "Minnesota Clay" (1964); "Bullets Don’t
Argue" (1964) (in this film, a group of cavalrymen is filmed in the plain
east of the artificial basin); "Gunfighters of Casa Grande" (1964); "Gunmen
of the Rio Grande" (1964); "Behind the Mask of Zorro" (1965); "Son
of a Gunfighter" (1965); "Renegade Gunfighter" (1965);
"Custer of the West" (1966) (an Indian camp is built on the eastern
plain); "Ringo and His Golden Pistol" (1966); "Django Shoots
First" (1967); "Death Knows No Time" (1968). The plain which
extends to the east and is used in "Seven Hours of Gunfire" (1965)
(the pioneer camp); "Ringo From Nebraska" (1966); "Mutiny at Fort Sharp"
(1966) (in which this basin appears as the Rio Grande); "Seven Dollars to
Kill" (1966).
